The Private Gymnasium Riedenburg

The Sacre Cœur Riedenburg is a Catholic private school from ages ten to nineteen, for girls only. In this school the girls have to wear a school uniform. The blue uniform looks really good.

In the school there are:
• 60 teachers who are responsible for about 360 students
• 21 classes

After four years of grammar school you can choose between two different school types:
• In the continuation of grammar school you get extensive general knowledge and are able to do the Matura after another four years.
• The other branch is focused a hotel management and accounting. It takes another four years and it also finishes with the Matura.

The Riedenburg also has a monastery for about 20 nuns. Many years ago the nuns thaught the girls who went to this school. But now, they have retired from teaching.

Facilities and the location of our school

The Riedenburg has many facilities to offer.

Firstly, let us turn to the technical facilities: It includes a telephone connection to be always reachable. Additionally, the school possesses an internet connection with several computer labs. Moreover, the school management has installed a new fire alarm system.
Most of the students wish that they are always able to buy snacks or drinks, like coffee or lemonade, from our drinks machine.

Now let us look at the buildings itself:
Our school runs a library, where the students are able to borrow a book for free. New conference rooms and classrooms offer more place and ensure a good atmosphere. Furthermore, the pupils are able to eat a warm menu in the dining room every day. In addition, there are also boarders in our school, who also get breakfast and a dinner in the dining room if they want to.

The location:

The PG Riedenburg is situated on a hill at the edge of the city Bregenz and is surrounded by a well-kept park. Along the park, there is the gym with a sports field, where the pupils can do a lot of sports. Season after season, our park is always a jewel. In spring and summer we can go out in the park and in winter the pupils are allowed to toboggan down a little hill behind the gym.

Our Curriculum

The general curriculum is complemented by a very good education of art and music. Furthermore the teachers foster your knowledge of foreign languages by speaking bilingually. Moreover, we have some cross-curricular projects, concerning two or three subjects at the same time. The eight years are divided into two big levels of four years each:

First four years:
Girls who attend the so-called "Unterstufe" are 10-14 years old. In the third class you must decide if you want French or Latin as a new core subject.

Last four years:
The so-called "Oberstufe" which offers many interesting special weeks:
• social week in the 5th form and the
• economical week in the 6th form.
• a stay in either England, France or America for one week
• a trip to Rome (also one week)
Secondly, you may choose another new subject for two (short form) or three years (long form) that you can take for your "Matura". You can take one, you already have, then you will have two extra lessons per week or you can take a new one, for instance, Spanish. Moreover you are able to get the European Computer Licence.

In conclusion we would say, that our school is very good and if you have finished the whole eight years, you have completed your education in a very demanding but perfect way.

Afternoon Studies & Dayschool

It is possible for our students to take part in our afternoon studies, where they can do their homework with the assistance of our teachers. The studies start at 1 pm, right after lunch and continue until 4:40 pm with several breaks. In these breaks students are able to get a little snack consisting of healthy fruits and drinks. Furthermore the girls can attend many different courses, in which the main subjects English, German and Maths are practised together with their regular teachers.

Lunch & Canteen

Lunchtime starts after the fifth lesson and continues until 1:05 pm. Our students are supervised by teachers during the whole lunch, which consists of fruits, drinks, one main course and a dessert, in our beautifully renovated dining-hall, where some voluntary students serve the dishes. In the refectory there are no mobile phones or other electronic things allowed. The girls sit together in groups of six and enjoy their food, which can also be vegetarian. It is possible for our students to register for lunch until 8 o’clock in the morning by paying € 4,80.

Our boarding school

Residential Staff: Pedagogues and Councellors
There are pedagogues who look after the girls and who try to substitute the parents during the week. Living in a community at the boarding school is the aim, so there are rules. And for those who break the rules, there will be sanctions.
Freetime at the boarding school
In lower classes the girls are allowed to go to the city on Wednesdays until half past six, but during the week it is not possible. Upper classes may go out during the week until eight pm, and on Wednesdays until half past nine. For the remaining students at the boarding school, there is an educator who keeps an eye on them.

Discipline – a Motto

One priority of a student in this boarding school is discipline. Because of the faith the counsellors show have in the students, they learn to respect their classmates and their teachers. Even though the rules are strict, they support the education of the girls.

Religion
In the first four forms pupils have to go to church once a week in the evening. From 5’th to 8’th or 9’th form they can if they want to.

Studies and Homework
There is also one hour a day after school where the students have to study for school or do their homework. If they have finished all their work, they can read, go to their rooms or do something else as long as it isn’t watching TV.

All in all, it is a very good school and each girl who can go there should be happy about that.
